The primary responsibility of any school district is educating their students and supporting them to reach their full potential. As a board of trustees member, I would work to lower class size increase educational and extracurricular activities and decrease unnecessary “fluff work” for the students. Teachers should be empowered with the proper equipment necessary to support the children as well as a reasonable class size. Parents should be encouraged to become involved. Parents are an extension of the classroom at home, and it is important that the parents are included in their child’s education so they can support their students and teachers from home. My goal is to empower a child’s complete support system to empower our Washoe County kids to strive for their personal best in not only academics but also extracurriculars and career preparedness as well!

Did you know that from 2021-2023 there were 314 instances of battery on the Washoe County high school and middle school campuses? In January of 2023 three Washoe County teachers spoke at a school board meeting to express their concerns. One teacher informed the board she was body slammed into a locker, while another was given a bloody nose and an emergency room visit. It is time we address the current failing Student Behavior- Administrative Procedures.

As I write this there is a $1.7 million deficit in the Washoe County School's budget. While enrollment has gone down the cost to run the district has gone up. This leads me to wonder where is this deficit coming from? And where is our money being spent? Is it on the children? With bungalow classrooms without running water, cracked sidewalks and broken windows in our schools. How are we unable to maintain safe campuses without addressing the basics. As a Washoe Schools trustee I will work with the board to increase the budget to renovate and rejuvenate our schools our students, teachers, and parents deserve safe and healthy surroundings to learn and thrive!

I vow to be fully transparent to my board members and constituents. My goal is to open the door to any parent, student, or teacher who would like to be involved to support Washoe Schools Students. We become better when we include our whole community to support are Washoe County Schools.Here is where you can write about this issue.
